CobraTV Pro — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 July 2026
CobraTV Pro is a media player. It does not provide,
host, supply, or sell any TV channels, films, or other media content. It plays media from
playlists and files that you add yourself, and includes built-in features such as
internet radio, a trivia game, ambient screens, weather, and a few free, openly-licensed demo
clips. Please do not contact us asking for channels or content — we cannot provide any.
This policy explains what data CobraTV Pro (“the app”, “we”, “us”) handles, why, and how
you can have it deleted. We aim to collect as little as possible.
1. Information we handle
- Device identifier & key. When the app first opens it registers a
device identifier and is issued a device key, so your settings and any playlists you add can
sync to your device and your free trial / subscription can be recognised.
- Approximate location & network (from your IP address). Your country,
and your internet provider (ISP) name, are derived from your IP address to operate the service
and to prevent abuse of free trials. We do not use your device’s GPS/precise
location and the app does not request a location permission.
- Playlists you add. If you add a playlist, its address and any username /
password are stored so it can sync to your devices. Credentials are encrypted at
rest.
- Basic playback / connection diagnostics. e.g. connection type, approximate
speed and latency, plus the app version and your device model, to show service status and
help support.
- Now-playing status. While the app is open it sends a periodic
“still active” heartbeat and, when you are watching something, the current title,
to our own backend so we can see the device is in use and provide support. This is
first-party only and is never shared.
- Subscription status. Whether your trial or subscription is active (managed
on our website).
- Media you play from your own device (the “My Files” feature) stays on your
device. The app uses Android’s media-access permission only to list your videos/music for
playback; those files are never uploaded to us.
2. How we use it
- To run the app and sync your playlists and settings to your devices.
- To recognise your free trial / subscription.
- To prevent abuse (e.g. repeatedly reclaiming free trials).
- To provide support and monitor service quality.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
3. Third-party services
Some built-in features fetch data from third parties. We don’t share your identity with them;
the app simply requests public data:
- Weather: Open-Meteo, plus a keyless IP-based location lookup (ipapi.co)
so the app can show local weather without a location permission.
- Radio: the Radio Browser community directory.
- Trivia: the Open Trivia Database.
- Other Discover features: world news (public RSS feeds), Word of the Day
(dictionaryapi.dev), recipes and sports (public content APIs), NASA’s picture of the
day, and podcast / audiobook directories — each simply requests public content.
- Demo clips, artwork & images: openly-licensed demo media (e.g. the
Blender Foundation open movies and the Internet Archive), and playlist logos / artwork which
load directly from their image hosts.
- Payments (website only): Stripe processes any subscription payment on our
website. The app itself does not take payments and does not contact Stripe.
- Crash reporting: the released app has crash / error reporting
turned off — no error or diagnostic data is sent to any third party
from the Play Store build.
These providers see only the request itself (including your IP address, as with any website);
we do not send them your account or personal data.
4. Security
Data the app collects about you is sent to cobratvnz.com over an encrypted
(HTTPS) connection. Separately, some IPTV streams you add yourself may use a
plain (unencrypted) connection — that is a property of your provider’s stream and is
outside the app’s control.
5. Retention & deletion
You can delete your data at any time:
Deletion removes your device record (identifiers, last IP, country/ISP, diagnostics), your
saved playlists and their stored credentials, and this device’s activity log. We retain a one-way
(irreversible) fingerprint hash used solely to prevent free-trial abuse, and a record of an active
paid subscription where one exists, as permitted for fraud prevention and to honour your purchase.
6. Children
CobraTV Pro is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13.
7. Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be posted on this page with a new date.
